God called Pastor Mason Fenner to move to Cleveland, Ohio from Deaf Fellowship Church in Rome, Georgia where he was ministering to deaf people there for 8 years. In 2012, Pastor Mason and his family moved to Cleveland and met several deaf people and Pastor Mason shared the burden that God wanted him to start a Deaf church in Cleveland. The group named the church Oakwood Deaf Community Church, and they found their first place to worship and have Bible study at Solon Community Center in Solon, Ohio. The first morning church service was held on September 9, 2012. After one year and three months we as a group felt that, the Solon Community Center was too far out for everyone.
Oakwood Deaf Community Church members and visitors were begging to have Sunday evening worship service. We started evening church service in basement of Pastor Mason’s home on Tradewinds Cove in Painesville, Ohio. The first Sunday evening worship was held on May 5, 2013. After six months, we saw the need for handicap access since climbing up and down the basement stairs was hard for handicap visitors.
While Oakwood Deaf Community Church members were praying for a new place to meet. In October 2013, God led Willoughby Bible Church to help us by providing a room to use for both worship services and Bible study. The first worship service was held on November 24, 2013. God has been so good to Oakwood ever since.
